Salat al-Tawbah (Prayer of Repentance)

Salat al-Tawbah (Prayer of Repentance)

Virtue: When a servant of Allah commits a sin, and he performs ablution well, and then stands and prays two rak'ahs, and asks pardon of Allah, Allah pardons him.

Abu Huraira reported: Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) said: When a bondsman-a Muslim or a believer-washes his face (in course of ablution), every sin he contemplated with his eyes, will be washed away from his face along with water, or with the last drop of water; when he washes his hands, every sin they wrought will be effaced from his hands with the water, or with the last drop of water; and when he washes his feet, every sin towards which his feet have walked will be washed away with the water or with the last drop of water with the result that he comes out pure from all sins. (Sahih Muslim 244)

How to pray Salat al-Tawbah (Prayer of Repentance)?
Tawbah is a simple act of turning to Allah and asking for forgiveness. So the question still remains will Allah forgive any sin? and what about the most the gravest sins such as illegal sexual intercourse (Zina) or even worse than this?

Allah says in Surah Al-Zumar, verse 53:
Say, Oh my servant, the one who has wronged himself, do not despair from the mercy of Allah, indeed Allah forgives all sins, Indeed he is the oft-forgiving, The Most Merciful.

Conditions of Repentance:
1. Feel bad for what you have done, be sincere of the repentant. Mean it.
2. Stop the sin right here, right now! No more, give it up.
3. Make a strong resolution to never return to the sin.
4. If you have taken someone else’s property or rights, return it to them.

Steps:
1. Make Wudu
2. Offer 2 Raka’at Nafl Salat
3. Ask for forgiveness for the sin - whether major or sin, all sins.

Turn the bad deed into a good deed:
The Prophet (saw) said: Fear Allah wherever you are and follow up a bad deed with a good deed, Indeed the Good deed wipes away the bad. (At-tirmidhi)
